Star Ruby (also known as Dark Red) is the dominant Egyptian export grapefruit. Large, round, with golden-yellow skin and a thick, soft, easy-removing peel. The interior flesh ranges from white through pink to deep red — and the redder, the sweeter. Flavour is tangy and refreshing, with very light seeding. The Egyptian season runs November through March, fitting cleanly into EU and GCC retail and food-service rotations. Pre-cooling at the pack-house brings core temperature into spec before reefer loading.
