Egyptian Barhi dates are harvested at the khalal (yellow, crunchy) stage for fresh consumption — distinct from the brown soft dates that most international markets associate with the category. The fruit is caramel-sweet, crisp, and sun-ripened on the palm. This is a premium specialty product with a tight cold chain: air shipment is standard, controlled-humidity storage at 0–2 °C is required, and the season is short. Demand peaks across GCC fresh-retail in late summer; EU diaspora and gourmet channels take growing volumes.
